When beginning this assessment, I had never kept a blog and
had no prior experience with Blogger. Learning how to create and maintain a
blog was certainly an interesting and useful learning experience.
Technology aside, however, the blog did aid my French
writing skills and comprehension. Researching each topic, and exploring a range
of French sources, both written and audio, both tested and developed my
language skills. Furthermore, the different style of writing demanded of each
post was a challenge, and encouraged me to think about how I express myself in
French, and try new techniques.
My only criticism of the blog is that the amount of time and
work involved in creating the blog, as well as formatting and uploading each
post, was disproportionate to the amount the assessment is worth. Studying a
language at university is more demanding and time consuming than many other
subjects, and as a French student I happily embrace that. However, various
technological errors and challenges I faced meant that, in some weeks, I had to
spend more time on the blog posts than I could afford, often at the expense of
other areas of study.
Despite that, the program was very well supported. The
instructions of how to set up the blog and what was expected in the posts was
very clear, and the feedback I received after each post was detailed and very
helpful.
Ultimately, I enjoyed the blogging project. It was a fun and
creative way to develop my language skills, and I believe I benefited greatly
from the experience.
